Notes from your President, 11/2018

The 2019 Racing schedule is finally set. You will note a few changes from 2018. The schedule includes a new (old) track – Eagles Canyon, and a departure from NOLA. Also, the Super School has been moved to the fall and will be held at Eagles Canyon.
For a variety of reasons, SCCA decided to move the Super Tour from NOLA to Road Atlanta this year. That left Houston Region with a choice – make the NOLA race a Majors Race, or drop it from the schedule. Unfortunately, without the backing of the SCCA Super Tour designation and co-sponsorship from SE Division, Houston did not believe that a race at NOLA would be financially viable.
Some of you have asked about a return to Texas Motor Speedway in 2019. Unfortunately, the track has installed some additional barriers that must be removed in order to utilize the TMS road track. While not on the schedule for 2019, TMS may be an option in the future if/when we resolve the barrier issues.
For anyone who was planning to attend a school in January in order to race in 2019, please contact MSR Houston. They conduct SCCA approved drivers schools throughout the year.

2019 Season Southwest Division Schedule
The season opener is a Majors Race at MSR Cresson on January 26-27. For those of you are not familiar with MSR Cresson, it is a “Country Club” track just Southwest of Fort Worth near Granbury, and the Headquarters of Moses Smith Racing LLC Formula Mazda team. Moses is the SOW Div Licensing DA, and Sitara Wilson, Operation Manager of Formula Mazda at Moses Smith Racing, is the Race Chair. Let’s all turn out and support the first Majors race at Cresson!
The Super Tour Series will return to COTA February 8-10, with a test day scheduled for Thursday, February 7. One of the major suggestions from the racers last year was to please schedule a test day. We heard you! Lone Star and Texas Region are jointly sponsoring the Super Tour, with the usual SCCA Super Tour Staff Support. We will need lots of workers to support what we hope to be a really good turnout!
Texas Region welcomes SCCA back to Eagles Canyon May 4-5. The track has been repaved, along with other upgrades and is very eager to have has back! Texas Region scheduled a race and school there in 2018, but due to weather and other delays, the track wasn’t expected to be ready for racing in November 2018. But it most certainly will be ready for us in May!
Houston Region will conduct Triple Majors weekends on Memorial Day, May 25-26 and Labor Day, Aug 31-Sept 1 weekends at MSR Houston, same as last year. The Triple Majors provide a great opportunity to gather points for the SOW Div Championship Series and Runoffs Eligibility Participation credit. As of this writing, the first race on Sunday at the Labor Day event will be a double points race. But please Stay Tuned for any changes!
The 2019 season ends with a Fall Super School/Restricted Regional at Eagles Canyon, Nov 8-10.
As you can see, January will be a busy month for the Southwest Division, with the SCCA Convention in Las Vegas (1/17-19), the SOW Div Annual Meeting in Houston (1/12), and the Cresson Majors.
Have a Happy Holiday season and we’ll see you in January!

Cathy Barnard
SOW Div Executive Steward and President
